Drawing and painting have been a lifelong interest of Connecticut artist, Victor Santos. As a youngster he won an art scholarship to a charcoal drawing workshop in New York City . He has read tons of art books, attended many painting workshops, taken every college art elective available, plus a long string of adult education painting courses. Victor’s main interest is landscape painting using acrylics. He likes the fast drying nature of these paints which allow him to work quickly once an idea has taken shape. Like many artist, any subject matter he sees can be a source of inspiration. He also enjoys doing cityscapes, townscapes, and still life. Lately, he also started using water soluble oils and is very happy with the results - he’ll be doing more work with these paints as well. The painting process used involves putting down a general blocking in of color notes and maybe some sketchy drawn lines. These lines indicate the placement and proportion of objects. When this first statement dries (which is rather quickly with acrylics) it is followed by successive layers of color and value. These added layers are the re-statement and refining process that continues until the artist feels the painting expresses what he wants to say. Victor has been a member of the Glastonbury Art Guild in Connecticut since 1985. Elected in 2007 to the guilld board of directors.
